Has anyone done control bit manipulation in a SPDIF sound stream?

I'm looking at different ways of doing this, but I wanted to see if anyone has done it and what method you used. Cablevision seems to be "locking" the sound stream in the optical output so I can no longer feed it to my PC, and I don't like using the RCA analog outputs.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Decode the SPDIF stream to IIS using a TI DIR9001 or similar chip. The IIS stream will not have the control bits - just audio data. Encode the IIS back to SPDIF using a TI DIT4096 or similar chip. You can tell the DIT4096 how to set the control bits in the SPDIF stream.

Simple enough it is brilliant! Thanks for the reply and for introducing me to these chips.
