How can i make a slingbox or a mediabox, something that i can watch my movies from my pc to tv?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

There are several ways to go about this.

If you have either of the following:
PS3
Xbox360
You can use a program called TVersity. It is a popular streaming and transcoding program that has support for a variety of video formats. Most notably: mp4, avi, rmvb, etc. Here is the website: http://tversity.com/

If you don't, you can always build a media center PC. Here is a good guide for building a Media Center PC: http://hubpages.com/hub/Build_Your_Own_Media_Center_PC

I would also recommend LinuxMCE but if you are unfamiliar with Linux, the Windows7 media center is a less featured, but maybe more comfortable OS to use.

If you have an old Xbox sitting around and feel like getting it back to use here's another alternative:

and here is a secondary, but more tricky, method that works without the need of a dongle or Splinter Cell:

the cheapest way to do so is using an old computer or a console (like described before), erase the disk, and install a linux distro, there are a lot of media center distro's out there.
what I would do, if it's just for watching movies and nothing more or less is installing geexbox. cheap & light but nothing more. set up a samba share on your other computer and play the thing. price if you have the computer 0$
If you don't have any hardware thing lying around just buy a wireless transmitter box from vga to coax or scart or hdmi (depends on your tv). It saves you a lot of time and looks nice. It's not what I prefer but I set system up like that at my ex her house.

that is a very vague question. If you have an xbox, you can use xbmc to watch movies shared over a network by your pc, or you could get a pc card with a video out to watch your movies directly on your tv from your computer. Also, if your tv has a vga-in port, you can plug your computer into your tv and use it as a giant desktop.
hope this helps

The easiest way to start would be to build a decent computer system and load LinuxMCE. This is a full media center OS that will allow you to do all kinds of TiVo style stuff as well as control some home automation (like lights).

You can find LinuxMCE here: http://www.linuxmce.org/

A program like boxee or gamex.will allow you to watch movies, listen to music or even play games)with an emulator). if you have windows vista or windows 7 windows media center is built in. most newer tv's have S-video ports on them. a VGA to S-video cord would be a great choice if your computer/tv Does not have an hdmi input/output. you need help setting this up feel free to email me anytime! my email is barryh16@yahoo.com. Good luck!
