I'm looking for an android rom, for 32b magic/mytouch. i am looking for one of the roms that lets you complete the setup process with wifi i
nstead of celldataplan. ive followed theunlockr til the end, but now it is time to choose a rom and i don't want to have to borrow someone's sim everytime i want to flash a new rom,
i'm thinking cyanogen's latest is capable of that, but are there more, what's the best rom for that phone? adp2 minus some awesomesauce and 305 extra dollars lol i paid 120
ok i used amonra's latest recovery dealio and i was under the impression that cyanogen made custom roms for android where you could do the gmail setup thing over wifi instead of 3g. i know its possible. maybe i'm just asking in the wrong place./

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

First off you may want to articulate your questions a little bit more clearly and make sure you have very few mistakes, that will help get answer.
But as far as your issue goes, it seems VERY unlikely that they would force you to use 3G to set up an email, im quite sure that the program would use whatever data is available. Also, why would you buy a phone if you were not planning on getting a data plan. That can be a very bad idea, because most smartphones will assume you have a dataplan and automatically use cellphone data which can rack up major charges VERY quickly. If you dont have a SIM in the phone and your using it just as an android "media" device or whatever, that seems like it would be a waste, why not get just a straight andriod device instead?

ok yes i am not good at articulating my questions or whatever.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8BZYEBsSwsthey do force you to login to gmail to unlock all of the phone's functions, because they want your $. i don't want 3g, sure its nice and all, but im around wifi enough and i can deal with not being able to get online while driving. i got the phone for the wifi capabilities, and it can do anything with wifi that it could do with 3g, Once you setup the phone by logging into gmail with cell dataplan. if you dont have android plan, they will sell you the android plan or cut off your data for activating an android phone without getting the android plan. this is because of all those big corporations, they want money, you cant buy a phone with wifi without also buying their data plan, because wifi is free and they want $. (you can buy one with no contract and unlocked tho.) i don't control my mobile account. i have the opposite of a data plan, no mms, no internet. everyone else on the plan can accidentally access the internet, or send mms, not me. so the phone company doesnt get the info that i have a smartphone and they cant sell me the dataplan. if i wanted a dataplan i would have to get my own contract because the person in charge of the account is a giant douche and wouldnt upgrade me to unlimited data even if i gave her more than it cost each month. since i have 0 data incoming/outgoing, just sms, voice, i can't 'rack up major charges very quickly'. i'm on that databan because someone borrowed my sim and did that very thing. ran me up a $500 bill in no time.
i bought the phone for the wifi, and to root it, and all the other features like the real gps, unlike my normal phone the samsung impression which uses the internet to do gps stuff. and the compass. it's awesome. and googlestarmap, everything. i dont know what you mean by 'straight android device' because i didnt know android came on anything besides cellphones, i do know that my laptop won't boot android properly from an SD card, that is all. i really bought the phone because it was better than the phone i was originally going to buy, the lg incite, and it was a helluva bargain at $120 because thats what my friend wanted for it. and once i logged into gmail the first time (waited like a month with a paperweight phone) i had finally found what i was looking for. fuggin linux on a phone. android market is analogous to what i look for in any distro, synaptic package manager, ubuntu software center. graphical not command line based.
but yes they do force you to use cellphone data to login to gmail 'sync' with your gmail account, before you can do anything with the phone. and i had read about a way to skip it, and seen it skipped on youtube when someone was showing off a new rom. i am just having trouble finding what roms will let you do that, skip gmail setup or send it in using wifi
it exists, but i cant seem to find it anywhere, lots of broken links
nvm. found one and it works, http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Latest_version#Current_Stable_Version_2 just have no idea where the friggin android market went.
