sd-card to usb adapter
I am wondering if it would be possible to find or make an adapter so that I could plug a usb device into an sd-slot or would I be able to remove the sd slot from the motherboard and install a usb?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

SDCards talk in two ways. Either over a single bit bus or over a 4 bit bus. Which used depends on the host. Regardless, the host device is expecting to see a mass storage device. A USB host is way way way more complex. A USB host should be able to handle anything from a keyboard (HID) to a Thumb Drive. You would first need to emulate a USB host to talk to the USB peripheral thumb drive -then- you would need to translate the data read from the thumb drive into something that looks like a 1 and / or 4 bit wide SDCard. While not impossible I can think of many other fun things to do first.

I was interested because I couldnt find a tablet pc that had a usb port, only sd slots, kinda takes away from portability if I cant plug an external hard drive into it
Interesting.
I just did a quick search. The HP Slate 500 has wireless LAN support. I should think you could hang a NAS on your network to get what you want.
BTW it already has a 64GB HDD built in.
