M$1) DigiKey.
2) Mouser
3) Sparkfun
4) E-bay
5) Direct from the manufacturers web site.
Digikey and Mouser have just about anything you can think of from replica and replacement old school electronic components to the newest high end multicore MCU's/DSP's. AND!!!, they have respectable prices, including many shipping options.
Sparkfun makes a lot of niche break boards and prebuilt stuff that is good for hobbyist and for prototyping things. Good for proto board too. Precises fair for what they offer.
E-bay has some really good deals on things from time to time if you are patient and check in often. This is also about the only option for getting authentic electronics for a fair price, But expect to get bum deals every now and then.
And lastly, manufacturers web sites can some times be good for the hobbyist, but are most often tailored toward suppliers or other manufacturers. A few of note are Microchip direct and Maxim. Most importantly, you can also get free samples with this option *IF* you have a e-mail address other than the normal free "social E-mail addresses" like Gmail or Yahoo mail.
