What should I do with this PS2 laying around?

And not just "Put linux on it." I have an old PS2 slim in my basement and would like to modify it into something useful. Ultimately it would be nice to use it as a media device of some kind. Any suggestions?

I would case mod it, add a large internal usb hard drive, load the sms media player and open ps2 loader. Now you have a all in one system that can play games, movies, and audio from the internal hard drive. All you need is a remote control and you're set to go. It would also be awesome if you could add an internal projector so you can project onto a large screen for movie nights and what not. I've already hacked the life out of my ps2 slim. My next project is a 3" lcd video projector. Feel free to contact me if you need an in depth how to on any of the above (files, advice, parts lists, etc).

Is it possible for this to still connect to my network then? Meaning can I stream to it, or does everything need to be on the drive. Awesome idea though. The all in one near portable media solution is great.

The hard drive would just be for primary storage, you would still be able to access your network assuming the software running supports it. I'm pretty sure Open PS2 Loader supports streaming games but I'd have to check if sms media player can access via network. The one thing that annoys me about sms is that it can't read mp4 or flv files, but it reads standard avi just fine.

Case mod it into a George Foreman Grill. Cut two speaker holes on top. Next fudge up a quick amplifier, find an old George Foreman sized lcd panel, throw it all together and you have an awesome portable PS2 disguised as a George Foreman grill.

10 extra pts. if you find a way to throw in a Jupiter Jack and Sham-wow. RIP Billy.
